I just wanted to know why if New England was all about antislavery and full of abolitionists then why was it that the Boston Red Sox were the last team in the majors to have a black player.

I wonder if it had to due with race relations in the sense that baseball was the most watched sport and many people might not have wanted to listen to or come to the games if there was a black player or there may not have been anyone brave enough to try out for them. Just guessing since I know next to nothing about baseball.

I think it had all had to do with the Boston Red Sox's management and their views on the acceptance of African American players on the team.

Yeah I think it is important to point out that the people of Boston were not the ones making that decision. Only a few big shots are in control of this and while they may have been ignorant regarding the matter doesn't mean that everyone in Boston at this time felt this way. Fun fact though!

I think the same thing can be said about abolitionists and the North at this time. I think many people believe that the North was just a safe haven for African Americans when in reality the North could be at times just as racist as the South was. There were plenty of slaves in the North and all African Americans were considered second class citizens. The same thing can be said about abolitionists. While there cause was just many didn't want anything to do with African Americans after they were freed from slavery instead to send them back to Africa instead of integrating them in the American culture.
